With his love for the sea, for fishing and for his boat, Marc decided to share his knowledge and his passion with every one wanting to go out to sea.
Leaving from the Port, Marc offers cruises and fishing lessons with dads and children - pretty much anyone keen to share in the joy of ocean fishing. You'll get to try bottom fishing, chokka fishing...all whilst looking for whales and dolphins. He has even had a wedding in the Bay.
Birdwathchers looking for the storm petrel, have been awed by the birds agility in rough seas (best time to see them), when taking a bird cruise out to sea with Marc.!
Birds also spotted have been, shearwaters, gannets, skewers,, albatross, and more……………come aboard also in good weather, and enjoy!
On good whale sighting days, whales have been as close as 5-10 metres away from the boat, slowly making their way out of the Bay towards the deep ocean (we call this a treat!)
We have seen them jumping, splashing, spyholing, clapping fins, blowing( so close you can hear it) , some days seeming only in your imagination you would see these happenings.. and then on occasions, if this wasn’t enough of nature sharing its magnificence with us, cue dolphins, and a couple chase the boat, before speeding out of distance towards the horizon.
When fishing, whales are normally there to be seen, although no one can guarantee sightings, even if you don’t see them in their splendour, a cruise out to see, clean air from the South, and the sights of St francis, the river mouth, dunes and the lighthouse……… enough to soothe any soul!
Marc is a trained cokswain with the national sea rescue institute, an active member on land and out at sea. He is ‘safety first’ any time leaving Port St francis. Apart from his passion for fishing, his knowledge of boating has taken him sailing to America, many trips from St Francis to Cape Town, as well as up the East coast to Richards Bay, and back…… He has skippered enviromentalists on his boat doing impact assessments and bathometric studies (very interesting!) and he has helped the squid researchers gather data!
